The recurrence of a chronic back injury has forced England Women all-rounder Katherine Brunt to withdraw from the 2018 Women’s World T20 tournament.

The issue flared up again for the 33-year-old during a warm-up match against India this week leading England head coach Simon Middleton to hasten Fran Wilson into the squad as Brunt’s replacement.

The fast bowler completed only five deliveries in England’s 11-run defeat to India before she was forced off the field, and scans have shown she will be unable to play a part in the Caribbean.

Middlesex batter Wilson is expected to be unavailable to play in England’s tournament opener against Sri Lanka on Saturday, as they bid to add World T20 success to their World Cup triumph in 2017.

Hosts West Indies are looking to retain their title when they open the tournament on Friday against Bangladesh.
