CentralHertfordshire broke their duck finally against a self destructing Norfolk who contributed 22 wides and a last over of 18, losing by 25 runs. A lovely wicket at Hertford and the home teams Brian Stephenson probably would have scored a ton if his own player, fellow batsman Keith Martin hadn’t hit him full on the head, 65 not out. 65 retired hurt. Oh dear!

Northamptonshire’s batting let them down 121 v Suffolk, Alan Burt 3-19. But octogenarian, approaching a Queen’s card, (he is in his eighth decade) Ray Waite, showed why he would walk into the 70 team with 9-5-6-5-. Poor Suffolk were blown away losing by 31.

Warwickshire also finally won a match beating Leicestershire by 6 wickets. Congratulations. Leics made 186-4, Mick Bradshaw obviously keeping the leg-side busy with 72, before Warwickshire all contributed with 188-4 in 38 overs, John Day 45.

NorthCheshire scored 199-9 with Chris Leech 69, but this was too much for Durham/Northumberland as Chris Lees ran amok with 5-15, showing why he is still in the England 60 team.

Lincolnshire found the visit to Shropshire worthwhile restricting the home team to 172-6, Bluey Thomas 5 before Paul Taylor’s 66 saw them narrowly home by 3 wickets.

Lancashire batted first with 183-7, Dave Bartholemew 53, Geoff Greenop 52. Derbyshire 184-4 in 41 with Harry Cartwright 66 and Ted Helmsley 38.

SouthBuckinghamshire look good for honours having brought in prolific Ian Caunce from Oxfordshire. He made 95 not out as they thrashed Essex by 7 wickets and 25.3 overs, Essex 147-9 with Simon Sargent on 50, was 100+ too little.

Berkshire took their second victory, 180-8 with their ever present David Streak hitting 44. Too much for Middlesex who fell 38 short.

Surrey, thanks to Barry Harts’ 70, totalled 198-8, Peter Hartland taking 5.27 for Sussex. Despite Boss Barnes on 81, Ray Clark dominated the game with two match winning boundary catches, Barnes the main one, and the small matter of 5-37, again celebrating an England call-up after some excellent performances.

WestWorcestershire will have been very chuffed to beat Wales by 38 runs. Trevor Knowles 51 and Glynn Thomas 62 must have hurt, coming from the lower order as they made 219-7. Wales totalled 181, George Batty 4-39 and Gwyn Price 55.

Wiltshire were shot out for 96 by Somerset in 33.5, Dave Stephenson 3-51 and Brian Brogden 6-15 and achieved the target in 25.5 for 2 down.

Finally, Gloucestershire only garnered 144-9 against Hampshire and Micky Swain on 58 not out, became leading aggregate scorer in the Over 60’s since inception (just!!), as Hants cruised in 38.3.
