GARY Ballance plundered a superb 91 to give Yorkshire a chance in the quarter-finals of the Royal London One-Day Cup against Essex at Chelmsford.
Essex opening bowlers Jamie Porter and Matt Coles gave the hosts the perfect start and left the Vikings 45-4 before Ballance, who hit an audacious ramp shot for six off the bowling of Ravi Bopara, helped Yorkshire recover to set 260 to win.
