Gloucestershire cricketer Hankins charged with drink driving

George Hankins has been hit with a drink-driving charge after a collision in Surrey last weekend.

The 23-year-old batsman was arrested following the crash in Cobham on Sunday evening. He had been staying in Surrey during lockdown.

Hankins, who has appeared sporadically for Gloucestershire since making his debut in 2016, was released on unconditional bail and is due to appear at Guildford Magistrates Court in July.

In a statement the County Championship Division One side said: “Gloucestershire Cricket has been made aware of an incident – being investigated by Surrey Police – regarding one of its players.

“The Club is in touch with the player concerned and has initiated a full internal investigation.

“As this is a police matter, the Club will not be commenting further at the present time.”
