Virat Kohli’s plans for World Cup domination have been dealt a severe blow after Shikhar Dhawan was ruled out for the rest of the Cricket World Cup.

According to TV reports emanating out of India, the opening batsman suffered a fractured thumb playing against Australia on Sunday.

The BCCI are yet to make any comment on Dhawan’s condition and how it could affect the 33-year-old’s outlook for the tournament.

The World Cup final will take place on 14 July and Dhawan’s knock of 117 off 109 balls helped India to maintain their unbeaten start at The Oval.

Clarification over his injury is set to be finalised on Tuesday with team doctors sending him for precautionary scans on his thumb.
