ECB award Curran Test central contract for first time

By Bradley West

Surrey allrounder Sam Curran has been awarded his first red-ball central contract with England as the ECB confirmed their central contracts for the 12-month period following October 1.

Curran played a key hand in England’s recent Test series victory over India, scoring 272 runs and taking 11 wickets on his way to winning the Man of the Series award.

Sam’s brother Tom has also been awarded an incremental contract for the next 12 months.

Alongside Curran, Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid have been given contracts for Test, One-Day and Twenty20 cricket – joining Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes as players to have contracts for all forms of the game.

Those with Test contracts or for all forms of the game have their salaries paid in full by the ECB while the players on white ball only contracts receive a supplement alongside their county salaries.
