The Indian Premier League could be moving to South Africa once more in 2019 if rumours are to be believed.

As per The New Indian Express, the 2019 edition of the franchise Twenty20 tournament could be held in South Africa for the second time to avoid clashing with India’s general elections.

The second edition of the tournament was similarly moved to South Africa in 2009 due to the timing of general elections that year.

It is also believed that the competition will be brought forward in 2019, possibly to as early as the third week of March, so as to ensure that top international stars can take part and then rest ahead of the World Cup, staged in England from May 30 next year.

Chennai Super Kings will go into the tournament as reigning champions after defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in the 2018 final.
