WTC could just be the event to save red-ball cricket

The inaugural World Test Championship is over but it never really got into gear. Of course, Covid-19 derailed the best laid plans, meaning the race to the final was an anti-climax.

There was hope that the decider – pitting two worthy finalists and most importantly mighty India who ensured the final had a sizeable audience – could redeem the situation and be something befitting a momentous occasion for Test cricket. Southampton’s weather played party pooper although the action was riveting whenever play was possible.
Despite all the struggles, the WTC is worth persevering with and fortunate...
