BANGLADESH cricketer Shahadat Hossain has been granted bail after being held for allegedly beating an 11-year-old maid.

A Dhaka court bailed Hossain until March 31, but deputy attorney general Moniruzzaman Kabir said his office would appeal.

Hossain handed himself into police on October 5 and has been in custody since. He denies charges of employing and assaulting a minor, along with his wife, who was granted bail last week.

A representative of the alleged victim said: “The High Court has accepted Shahadat’s bail plea today after it was earlier rejected by the lower court.”
