A decision will be made on James Anderson’s future involvement in the India tour next week when the 34-year-old undergoes examinations at the National Cricket Centre to assess his condition.

The fast bowler has returned to Loughborough this week in order to complete a programme to aid his recovery from a shoulder injury. Anderson has already been ruled out of the first Test against India in Rajkot, which begins on November 9.

England’s all-time leading wicket-taker has taken no part in the current tour of Bangladesh and hopes to return to fitness in time for the second Test against India, although a decision will be made at the National Cricket Performance Centre next week.

Anderson, who has taken 463 Test wickets since his debut in 2003, is suffering from a stress fracture in his right shoulder and has not played since the series against Pakistan.

The Lancashire bowler said: “I’m at Loughborough next week. They have a tent there so I will be bowling outdoors.”

He added: “It’ll be a good test and if it goes well I am hoping that we can decide then.”

It would be a major loss for the England team if he were to be ruled out for more than just the first Test, as he played such a important role in England’s series victory against India in 2012.

Anderson was replaced by Chris Woakes in the England team, leaving Stuart Broad as the most experienced bowler in the side.

England begin their second and final Test against Bangladesh tomorrow morning as they look to secure a series win after securing a 22-run victory in Chittagong.
