Varun Chopra will leave Warwickshire at the end of the season with Essex and Hampshire interested in signing the former Bears skipper.

Chopra, 29, stepped down as captain earlier this year having joined the club from Essex ahead of the 2010 season.

He has scored over 6,000 first-class runs for the county as well as List A runs and 1,688 runs in T20 matches. He was part of the Bears victorious victorious T20 Blast campaign in 2014.

A Warwickshire statement said: “Both parties believe that now is a good time for Varun to accept a fresh challenge and he is now able to talk to other counties in order to realise his own career ambitions. In the meantime, he remains fully committed to the club and will continue to perform at his best through to the end of the current season.”
