ALEX Hughes has signed a new one-year contract at Derbyshire after scoring his maiden first-class century in 2015.

All-rounder Hughes, 24, was a regular in all formats last season, scoring 1,456 runs in all competitions and made his ton against Northamptonshire. He also took 60 wickets in all formats.

Derbyshire elite performance director Graeme Welch said: “Alex performed well across all three competitions, making several match-winning contributions.

“He’s a versatile player who provides options with both bat and ball. It’s important that he now kicks on and continues to perform to a high standard.”
