Cricketers who have started their international careers late

Cricket is a very physical game and in some countries like Uk and its former colonies (India, for example) is very common. Since their childhood kids grow up on the cricket ground and you can find some of these facilities very commonly everywhere in Great Britain, Asia and even Australia.

Since cricket requires a great dose of power, velocity and explosive force, like football, the most professional cricket players start to train at a young age. There is not a perfect age to start a good career in cricket but for sure starting at a young age is a big plus to be a pro player.

Anyway some are cricketers who started their professional career late, even if this meant to work harder and put a lot of effort to reach a high level. Some of them have started as late as 22 (the average age of an established pro player), achieving excellent results. Here some players who have started their pro career late in cricket.

Saeed Ajmal – Pakistan

Saeed Ajmal is undoubtedly one of the best spinners in the game. He is a pillar for Pakistan national Team internationally, playing the role of off-spinner and a great example for many young players. Ajmal played his first international match in 2008 at the age of 30.

Due to his great technique, especially regarding his bowling style, he became a top player very quickly, being pointed by many as one of the best spinners in the international panorama. It is very difficult to play against Saeed Ajmal and to be honest he can be considered a real nightmare for every batsman.

Matthew Hayden – Australia

Matthew Hayden is now an Australian commentator and former cricket player, but for a short period was one of the most popular cricketers for the Australian national team. During his career he faced many ups and downs, due to a few injuries, but at the same time he was inspirational for many cricketers who were starting to play..

In 2001 he scored 500 plus runs playing just three test matches against India, thanks to his aggressive and powerful way to play as a left-handed opening batsman. He was very known for his ability to score quickly at both Test and one day levels. Unfortunately Hayden was not able to make his talent shine for a long time, but during that period he was one of the best cricketers in Australia.

Kedar Jadhav – India

Kedar Jadhav is a very popular cricketer, right-handed batsman for the Indian team. His batting style is very different from other cricket players: he bats right-handed and bowls right and off-breaks. He played his first international match at the age of 29 against Sri Lanka in 2014. In his career he has played 4 ODIs and 2 T20 with the Indian national team with the rola of attacking batsman. In 2014, he made his international debut at the age of 29. He played his first match against Srilanka in Ranchi. He is short in height, but hitting power is very aggressive.
