Chris Dent

Dream XI: Gloucestershire batsman Chris Dent

1. Michael Klinger

Michael would be my captain as well, he’s been at the club
for a while now and I’ve opened the batting with him. He’s been a fantastic
player for us and in Australia and other places too. He’s a big figure that
I’ve played with who has helped me a lot.

2. Joe Root

I played with Rooty a long time ago when we were in the
England Under 19s and when we did play together, we opened the batting. It’s
pretty self-explanatory why he’s here – he’s turned out to be an unbelievable
player and there aren’t many better around at the moment.

3. Kane Williamson

Kane was an overseas player for a couple of years when he was just starting out in his international career. You could just tell he was a different quality to what we’d seen before, and he’s proved that by becoming one of the top players in the world. 4. Hamish Marshall

He was obviously a big figure at the club. I played with him
for a long time and he scored thousands of runs in such a short time. He’s not
only a great cricketer, he’s a great person as well and we were very good
friends. I was very close with him.

5. James Bracey

James is quite young and quite new to the game but in the
short period he has played, I think he’s a fantastic player. I would hope and
imagine that he’s going to kick on to play international cricket in the future.
He’s got the attributes and the mental toughness to do it.

6. Ryan Higgins

Someone who is playing at the minute and he’s a great
all-rounder. Since we’ve signed him, Ryan’s been instrumental to our team and
has come on leaps and bounds. This year he’s second in the MVPs and it shows
what a quality player he is with bat and ball.

7. Will Gidman

When Will was at the club, he was probably our best player
for about three or four seasons. In one year he got over 1000 runs and 50
wickets which doesn’t happen very often. Not only was he a great player, he was
a really good bloke. Everyone in the changing room loved him and we were gutted
when he left the club.

8. David Payne

David and I played in the academy together, came through
age-groups together and he’s become a great bowler for us. He’s been pretty
unlucky not to get any notice from England as he’s been successful in all
formats for a few years now. He’s invaluable to Gloucestershire

9. Jon Lewis

When I first started at the club, Jon was the main bowler
and he was consistent. He turned up at every game and just did his job. He got
the job done and when we were playing against big players, he’d normally stand
up and get them out.

10. Muttiah Muralitharan

We were lucky to have Murali with us for t20s for a bit –
he’s a fantastic spinner and probably one of the best that’s ever played the
game. He was a great man to have in the changing room and a down to earth and
nice guy.

11. Liam Norwell

He’s signed for Warwickshire recently, but he was great for
us and he took lots of wickets. Not only that, he ran in all day and did a job
for us, so he’s going to be sorely missed. I’m sure he’ll go onto bigger,
better things – he deserves it.
