Eoin Morgan in appearance at the Euro T20 Slam Draft

World Cup winner Eoin Morgan to play for Irish T20 side

England’s World Cup winning captain Eoin Morgan has been picked to play for Dublin Chiefs after being picked as an ‘icon’ player at the Euro T20 Slam.

The Dublin-born Morgan, 32, initially started his international career with Ireland and is set for a return to his homeland.

The tournament, which will feature two sides each from Scotland, Ireland and the Netherlands, is set to start on August 30 and ends September 22.

The Euro T20 Slam is likely to provide established and rising talents from Ireland, Scotland and the Netherlands a rare opportunity to face international cricketers on a competitive stage.

Eoin Morgan will partner star Pakistan pair Mohammad Amir and Babar Azam as well as former international bowler Harry Gurney at Dublin Chiefs.

The draft which happened today (July 19), saw Dublin Chiefs, Belfast Titans, Amsterdam Knights, Rotterdam Rhinos, Edinburgh Rocks and Glasgow Giants compile their squads.

Some of the star names who will feature in the competition include Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan (Rotterdam), Chris Lynn (Edinburgh) and Dale Steyn, South Africa’s highest ever wicket-taker in Tests who will feature for Glasgow.

The draft is set to continue this afternoon as teams begin to select local players to complete their sixteen-man squads.

Squads are allowed to contain up to a maximum of seven international players and must contain at least nine local players.
