Reece Topley signs for Sussex in return from injury

Sussex have announced the signing of Reece Topley until the end of the season.

The former Hampshire and Essex fast bowler returns after rehabilitation from back surgery, a result of multiple stress fractures during his career.

Topley, 25, had already been working with the coaching staff at Sussex as he progressed with his recovery.

Reece Topley, a left arm seamer, is highly thought of, a fact emphasised by his 16 limited overs appearances for England.

Topley has also been impressive in the longer format with him taking 127 wickets in 34 First-Class matches as he spoke of his excitement at returning from injury.

“I’m looking forward not only to be playing again, but to being back in the dressing room and working with the rest of the squad and the coaches here at the club.

“It’s been a long time out rehabbing, so if I can make it through to the end of the season fit and having contributed to the team and then work hard during the off-season so I am at my best for the start of next summer, I’ll be thrilled.”

Sussex head coach Jason Gillespie also expressed his happiness to have the chance to add a bowler with international experience to his squad.

“We’ve had our fair share of guys unavailable for various reasons this season, so to have another bowling option for the rest of the season is great news.”

Topley will be first available for Sussex against Hampshire in the T20 blast on 19 July.
