James Anderson suffers injury scare for Lancashire less then a month before Ashes

England bowler James Anderson has suffered a major scare less then a month away from the start of the Ashes.

Coming in to bowl to Durham’s Nathan Rimmington with the score at 234-5 Anderson pulled up in his run-up before leaving the field.

This could have repercussions for not only the ongoing match, in which Lancashire posted 337 all out batting first, but also for the Ashes later this summer.

He faces a race against time to prove his fitness heading into the inaugural Ireland v England Test Match on 24 July as well as the First Test against Australia at Edgbaston on 1 August.

James Anderson has 575 Test Wickets for England and has been in great form so far in Division Two of the County Championship this year taking 30 wickets.

His wicket tally this year would have been good news to the selectors with Anderson mixing fitness and form in the County Championship just as many England Test regulars are currently focusing on the World Cup. However, Lancashire only have two more four-day games before the start of August for Anderson to prove his fitness with Lancashire travelling to Northampton for a match starting 7 July before hosting Sussex six days later.

At the time of writing, Lancashire have rallied despite Anderson’s injury reducing Durham to 281 all out at Lunch on the second day.
