With six days to go before England open the Cricket World Cup against South Africa, captain Eoin Morgan has been taken to hospital after suffering a finger injury in training.

The batsman was taking part in a fielding drill as England trained at the Ageas Bowl when he was struck awkwardly on the finger.

Morgan has been taken to hospital for an x-ray to determine whether he will be able to play in tomorrow’s warm-up match against Australia in Southampton, with the World Cup opener against South Africa next Wednesday looming heavily on the result of the scan.
