Essex captain ten Doeschate signs one-year extension

Essex have announced that club captain Ryan ten Doeschate has signed a one-year contract extension with the club that will see him remain with the county until the end of the 2019 domestic season.

As his Essex side finishing in third in the County Championship, ten Doeschate was once again impressive, averaging 38.55.

The Dutchman began life at the club in 2003 and, after becoming captain in 2016, ten Doeschate enjoyed two phenomenal years as he led Essex first to promotion from division two and then to a highly improbable first Championship title for 25 years in 2017.

Speaking on the extension, ten Doeschate said: “My affinity for Essex just grows stronger and I’m really pleased with the way the team is developing and the direction the Club is taking.

“We’re continually striving to improve and I’m looking forward to the challenges we’ll face, and I feel I can still offer value to this team.”

Head coach Anthony McGrath said: “Tendo is a massive player for us, both on the field and in the dressing room, and I’m delighted he’s staying for another season.

“He’s a natural leader and has led this team to some fantastic triumphs in recent years and hopefully there will be more to come.”
