WADA warn ICC they are at risk of being declared non-compliant

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has warned the International Cricket Council (ICC) that they could be declared non-compliant if issues between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the country’s National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) are not resolved.
Confirmed in a statement, a WADA spokesman stated that the ICC had until October 4 to sort the dispute that has seen the BCCI refuse to allow NADA to conduct anti-doping work as the governing body do not benefit from government funding.
The ICC, who are responsible for making sure all their members adhere to the WADA code, face the threat of WADA’s Compliance Review Committee (CRC) should the deadline pass and no resolution be reached.
The news comes just a week after Russia’s Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) were controversially reinstated by WADA following their near two-year ban for alleged state-sponsored doping.
Should the ICC be declared non-compliant a set of “graded, predictable and proportionate sanctions” will be issued, with those ranging from fines to a suspension.
Earlier this week, ICC chief executive David Richardson admitted that the problem was hampering the sport’s chances of securing a place on the Olympic programme.
