Notts sign West Indies star for County run-in

Nottinghamshire have signed Kraigg Brathwaite for the final five matches of the County Championship season.

West Indies Test opener Brathwaite becomes immediately available for Notts trip to the Ageas Bowl to play Hampshire on Sunday and stressed the Division One title is still up for grabs despite Surrey’s 43-point lead over his new club.

“I’m excited about getting going at this great club and hopefully I can help the side push for the Championship title in the run-in,” said Brathwaite.

“Being able to call Trent Bridge home for a few weeks will be a great feeling and I’ll be looking to give my best for the team across the final five games.

“Testing myself in English conditions will develop my game and I’m hoping to continue my good form with the bat, starting on Sunday.”

Brathwaite’s arrival at Trent Bridge concludes the search by director of cricket Mick Newell to find a replacement for Quinton de Kock.

“Kraigg will bring great experience to the side having played nearly 50 Test matches and we hope he can continue his form on these shores,” he said.

“Put simply, he adds quality and depth we’re hopeful that he can make contributions in the final weeks of the season.”

After they play Hampshire, Notts will again be on the road to The Kia Oval to face Surrey before consecutive home games against Yorkshire, Essex and Somerset at Trent Bridge.

Brathwaite, 25, holds an average of 37.94 over 49 Tests for the West Indies, with his highest score of 212 coming against Bangladesh.
