Nottinghamshire set their sights on signing South Africa star

Nottinghamshire are formalising plans to sign South Africa star Quinton de Kock for the latter part of the county season.

Hopeful of making the switch from the green and yellow of the Proteas to the green and yellow of Notts, ESPNCricinfo have reported Peter Moores is in the market for an Overseas player but that de Kock isn’t necessarily their first-choice with another name on their shortlist.

South Africa embark on a month-long tour of Sri Lanka next month with the last match set to take place in Colombo on August 14. This leaves de Kock available for Notts’ T20 Blast match against Yorkshire Vikings and their five remaining County Championship fixtures.

In the Proteas most recent ill-fated Test series against Australia, 25-year-old de Kock averaged 31.85 with the bat and has 134 Test dismissals in total.

Notts fine start to the season with the red ball in Division One, where they won three of their first four games, has come undone in defeats to Lancashire and Somerset.

They have started the stronger side against Worcestershire in their ongoing County Championship match at Trent Bridge. Chris Nash typifying an utterly dominant display by the batting department with 139 from 225 balls, as the home side declared on 499-9. Worcestershire are 215-7 in reply.
