By Adam Ellis

Without a ball in the Ashes being bowled Stuart Broad already has a bruise to his upper body after being struck by a stray golf ball.

With plenty of talk abound about the Australians planning to pepper England with the short ball, Broad received an early and unexpected test to his pain threshold on a day off for the Ashes squad.

Playing at Brisbane Golf Club, and ECB spokesperson explained how the seamer managed to be struck on the back.

“Stuart Broad was practising on the putting green at Brisbane Golf Club when he was hit by a stray golf ball from a member.

“He is fine and no dramas. The ball hit him on his lower back.”

Ahead of the first Test which starts on Thursday at the Gabba, Broad took to Instagram to display the damage.

Broad became a source of ridicule for the Australia’s during the 2013-14 tour Down Under four months on from him standing strong at the crease at Trent Bridge despite clearly edging an Ashton Agar delivery which was given not out by the umpire.

With no reviews remaining to then Australia captain Michael Clarke, Broad was allowed to continue his innings at 37 not out to the anger of the Australia team and the wrath of the Australian media.
