Charity match for umpire

NORTH Devon Cricket Club are to hold a charity match in memory of John Silver, who passed away last year at the age of 77.The cricket-mad umpire moved to Devon after retiring as a university lecturer, immersing himself within the area by helping out in the community.The match, arranged by Barnstaple Link Rotary and his widow Jane, will take place on August 15.And friend Andy Davies believes it will be a fitting celebration of Silver’s life.Davies said: “It was felt that a fitting way to celebrate his life was to have a cricket match with the all-important cream tea,...
