England celebrate

Having struggled through the initial group stage with a number of unconvincing performances, England qualified for the Super 8 stage of the tournament after beating World Cup first timers Italy. But once again struggled to impress against cricketing minnows.

Having got past Nepal in their opening match with a dramatic final ball victory, England then lost to the West Indies, before a nervous batting performance against Scotland, and then battling past the Italians to qualify from their group in second place.

Super 8s

England will play all of their Super 8 matches in Sri Lanka, which should give them confidence, having beaten the co-hosts 3-0 in their t20 series before the World Cup.

England’s opponents for the Super 8s are Sri Lanka, Pakistan and New Zealand. Whilst the other group contains the online cricket betting sites favourites for the tournament India, South Africa, West Indies and Zimbabwe.

The top two teams from each Super 8s group will progress to the semi-finals.

  • Pakistan on Tuesday 24 February at 1:30pm GMT
  • New Zealand on Friday 27 February at 1:30pm GMT

Will England win the World Cup?

Despite their recent form, England head into the Super 8s as the third favourites for the tournament, behind India and South Africa.

India are justified favourites for the tournament, but upsets can always happen, just look at Australia’s inability to qualify from their group.

We’re not tipping England to win, but if they get on the right side of the draw for the semi-finals, anything can happen.
