LV= Breakthrough Player Award shortlist announced

Six of the county game’s brightest young talents have been shortlisted for this year’s LV= Breakthrough Player Award.

Alex Davies (Lancashire), Craig Miles (Gloucestershire), Jack Leaning (Yorkshire), Luke Wood (Nottinghamshire), Oliver Robinson (Sussex) and Tom Curran (Surrey) have been nominated after catching the eye with some excellent performances in the County Championship this season.

The nominated six were selected by an expert panel including former Australian international and Yorkshire coach Jason Gillespie, former England batsman Mark Butcher and ECB performance director David Parsons.

Two wild card picks will join the six youngsters on the shortlist in August, meaning anyone who impresses later on in the season also gets a shot at winning.

Previous winners of the LV= Breakthrough Player Award include England star Joe Root, Surrey’s Rory Burns and Yorkshire’s Alex Lees, and now fans can vote on who they think deserves the accolade in 2015 here.

Inaugural winner Root said: “The talent in this country is getting better and better as you can tell by this year’s LV= Breakthrough Player Award shortlist.

“I think it’s great that the new crop of younger players are starting to come through.

“The LV= County Championship helped me massively. It’s a breeding ground for international cricket players and I was lucky to learn from some of the best in the system.”

Deadline for submitting your vote is Monday September 14 at 9am.
